Biography
Dr. Darren Yap is an accomplished ENT Associate Consultant at Queen Mary Hospital in Hong Kong, with a distinguished career that spans the United Kingdom, New Zealand, and Hong Kong. His current sub-specialist interest is in Facial Plastics Surgery and Sialoendoscopy.
Dr. Yap received his specialist training in the UK, where he obtained memberships and fellowships from the Royal College of Surgeons Edinburgh. His extensive training includes a Rhinology (Facial Plastics and Skull Base) Fellowship at Oxford University Hospital in Oxford, United Kingdom and a Sialoendoscopy & General Otolaryngology Fellowship at Manukau Counties Health in Auckland, New Zealand.
As an exceptional trainer, Dr. Yap has previously served as the convenor for membership revision courses and as an instructor for advanced life support. In his current role as an honorary clinical tutor for the University of Hong Kong Medical School, he regularly teaches medical students and conducts anatomy lab sessions. He has further enhanced his teaching skills through participation in several professional development courses in both Hong Kong and the UK.
In addition to his teaching contributions, Dr. Yap has held several leadership roles, including Deputy Chair of the Thames Valley BMA Junior Doctors and a member of the Local Negotiating Committee. He also served as a trainee representative in the Rhinology and Laryngology section of the Royal Society of Medicine. Currently, he sits on the Hong Kong College of Otorhinolaryngology Facial Plastics Board as a representative of the Hong Kong West Cluster Hospitals.
Dr. Yap has a keen interest in research, having successfully published 17 peer-reviewed articles and won multiple awards for best oral presentations at several national and international conferences. Throughout his career, he has been recognized with several awards, including the CEO Leader of the Year Award, the Award for Excellence in Teaching, the Best Core Surgical Trainee Portfolio, the Best Junior Trainee Award, and the Most Promising Trainee Sri-Iyer Award.
Dr. Darren Yap continues to be a prominent figure in the field of otolaryngology, combining clinical excellence with a commitment to education and leadership.
