Biography
Dr. Darren Yap is Associate Consultant in the Department of Ear, Nose and Throat at Queen Mary Hospital in Hong Kong, with a distinguished career spanning the United Kingdom, New Zealand, and Hong Kong. His current subspecialty interests are in facial plastic surgery and sialoendoscopy.
Dr. Yap received his specialist training in the UK, where he obtained memberships and fellowships from the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh. His advanced training includes rhinology (facial plastics and skull base) Fellowship at Oxford University Hospital in the United Kingdom, and sialoendoscopy & general otolaryngology Fellowship at Manukau Counties Health in Auckland, New Zealand.
Dr. Yap has previously served as convenor for membership revision courses and as an instructor for advanced life support. In his current role as Honorary Clinical Tutor for the Department of Surgery at The University of Hong Kong, he regularly teaches medical students and conducts anatomy lab sessions. He has further enhanced his teaching skills through professional development courses in both Hong Kong and the UK.
Dr. Yap has held several leadership roles, including Deputy Chair of the Thames Valley BMA Junior Doctors and member of the Local Negotiating Committee in the UK. He was also a trainee representative in the Rhinology and Laryngology Section of the Royal Society of Medicine. Currently, he sits on the Facial Plastic Surgery Board of the Hong Kong College of Otorhinolaryngologists as a representative of the Hospital Authority Hong Kong West Cluster Hospitals.
Dr. Yap has a keen interest in research, with 17 peer-reviewed publications and multiple awards for best oral presentations at national and international conferences. His career accolades include the CEO Leader of the Year Award, the Award for Excellence in Teaching, the Best Core Surgical Trainee Portfolio, the Best Junior Trainee Award, and the Most Promising Trainee Sri-Iyer Award.
